Free Internet Safety Workshop

Parenting wired (or soon-to-be-wired) kids can be difficult, especially if we aren't familiar with these technologies. National Centers for Missing and Exploited Children is presenting a FREE 45 minute workshop presentation for parents, guardians, and communities of children aged 5-17

WEDNESDAY 9/26 at 7pm in the Klem South School Library

The workshop is designed to introduce audiences to the main online risks and basic Internet safety concepts.  Topics covered will include cyberbullying, revealing too much information, sexting, and online predators.  Audiences are also encouraged to establish rules and guidelines at home, to communicate with their children, and to consider filtering and monitoring options.

Bring your neighbors, parents, childcare givers and friends. You can even bring the kids. Childcare will be provided.

Please RSVP so we can best prepare for the evening.

From the September Penguin Press...

Hello, Klem South families!
We’re back for another great year and have a lot of new things we’d like to share with you.  Let’s start off with some breaking news… there will be no PTSA meetings this year!  What, you’re wondering?  Well, we’ve talked it over and realized that no one wants to add more meetings to their calendar, so we’re shaking things up a bit.  Instead of the same old meetings, we’ll be hosting monthly workshops, where we will look to school/district officials, as well as members of our community to educate us on numerous topics.

What do we have in mind?  Well, that part is up to you.  Are there specific issues you’d like us to cover?  Maybe anti-bullying or Internet safety are high in your list. Or perhaps you’d like to learn more about the new teaching standards and how it will affect your child. We want our monthly get-togethers to be productive, informative and time well-spent.  Because let’s be honest… time is valuable and in short supply. We’ve got to make the most of what we’ve got.

That said, free child care will be provided at each of our workshops and we’ve varied the times this year to provide more opportunity for the grown-ups to get together.  We realize not everyone will make it to these and that’s okay, because we have a multitude of other ways to stay connected with the PTSA.  We encourage you to check us out via the outlets listed below. Join us and share your thoughts on how we can make things better, for everyone.

A couple quick updates… our first fundraiser of the year, Save Around coupon books, is off and running. When returning the envelopes, please be sure to seal all money in them and send them back to school with your oldest child. This will help reduce lost items. We are also working on our first event fundraiser, Science Night, to be held on Tuesday, October 16. Details will be coming soon, but be sure to mark your calendars!

Our first workshop will be held on Wednesday, September 26, at 7 pm, in the school library.  Info will be sent home about this soon, as well.
