Faculty & Staff Appreciation Week

Hello, Klem South families, 

It's hard to believe we're nearing the month of May, but it's right around the corner. That means it's time to start thinking about Faculty & Staff Appreciation Week, which will be held May 4-8. We tend to do things up a bit bigger at Klem South, simply because we believe our faculty and staff is second-to-none.

In an effort to show them our appreciation for all they do to shape our children's educational journey, we have a week's worth of goodies to give.

Here's what's on the menu...

• Monday they'll be treated to breakfast in the lunch room. 
• Tuesday they'll find fresh flowers and goodie bags at their desks. 
• Wednesday we'll provide sandwiches and salads. 
• Thursday is 'Dessert for Lunch Day' and we'll treat them to lots of homemade treats.
• Friday we'll be ordering pizza. 

In order for us to make this a success, we look to our families to help provide items throughout the week. We have broken things down by grade level, making it easier to manage, You can view the list of needed items HERE and can sign-up for as many items as your family chooses.

Fundraising Season is upon us!

We’d like to welcome new parents to Klem South and say hello, again, to those returning this year.  We’re hopeful this year has gotten off to a sensational start – for your entire family.

The beginning of the year marks the start of fundraising season here at Klem South.  And while this is sometimes met with groans, we’d like to give you an idea of where we spend these hard-earned dollars. 

With budgets as tight as they have been in recent years, the PTSA has taken on a larger role in helping to educate our children beyond the traditional classroom setting.  Children, at each grade level, will enjoy at least one field trip completely funded by the PTSA.  We also provide numerous cultural arts opportunities throughout the year.  Past events have included paper-making classes, theatrical performances and visits from local authors.  We also purchase educational tools for math and literacy nights, provide assistance to our teachers with classroom supplies and host numerous events throughout the year to foster a greater sense of community within our school. 

We hope, as you look over the enclosed materials, that you see value in what we offer and are willing to support our efforts in some way.

Free Internet Safety Workshop

Parenting wired (or soon-to-be-wired) kids can be difficult, especially if we aren't familiar with these technologies. National Centers for Missing and Exploited Children is presenting a FREE 45 minute workshop presentation for parents, guardians, and communities of children aged 5-17. 

WEDNESDAY 9/26 at 7pm in the Klem South School Library

The workshop is designed to introduce audiences to the main online risks and basic Internet safety concepts.  Topics covered will include cyberbullying, revealing too much information, sexting, and online predators.  Audiences are also encouraged to establish rules and guidelines at home, to communicate with their children, and to consider filtering and monitoring options.

Bring your neighbors, parents, childcare givers and friends. You can even bring the kids. Childcare will be provided.
